Mission Status:
Book Week helps raise money toward the supply of resources for the school and today, Drawn2Life were invited to attend the morning assembly as special guests, along with the 501st Redbacks.

The Geebung Special School’s students were all dressed up and excited to meet Drawn2Life’s Lucario (LittleLoki) and 501st Jawa (Dark Dora), Garindan (Stormraven), Biker Scout (Teiwaz) and RC Boss (Whitey) and were thrilled when they were announced and joined the assembly.

We were also joined by a terrific volunteering Dad that took up the loaned Schoolastic costume to be Clifford for the day – a massive job for one not used to wearing a costume! Each class was invited to show off their costumes on stage and get their photo taken and many of the children were absolutely delighted to get a quick hug and handshake with our costumed guests. To top it all off, our guests were selected to hand deliver the Book Week prizes to some lucky students!
Our only attending wrangler was designated as school photographer per the school’s request but luckily the assembly went by without a hitch or any costume malfunctions. Parents, teachers and students were all eager to get photos with our team and it wasn’t long until the rush off assembly was over and the team were able to take a quick break before heading over to the gymnasium to prepare for a photoshoot with Bayside Star News. After being interviewed and photographed for the paper (which you can read here: http://www.baysidestarnews.com.au/news/s...b/3080265/)
the team were finally able to have some one on one time with the students, as each class took turns to come visit and get some photos taken.

We had plenty of very excited children that were curious to see our characters up close with a few fascinated by the tactile experience of being able to touch and feel the costumes. It is always a joy to see children respond when their hands are able to be held by our characters, as if the simple act was proof that our costumers really were the real deal. It wasn’t until towards the end of the separated class visits that we had some trouble, as a few of the children were keen to play a little too rough with our volunteers by tugging, pulling or punching them. This was at least a great moment to showcase how supportive our members are, as with our one wrangler tied up with other duties, our costumers were able to look out for each other and worked together to help protect each other, making sure to keep an eye out and back up any costumer in trouble.
Together, they were able to avoid any accidental costume damage by having each other’s backs and it was really great to see that throughout the entire day. There was only one class that couldn’t make it to us, so with some friendly students as guides, we were taken down to the class instead where we could meet the remaining students. It was here where a few of our team really seemed to strike a chord with a few of the children. The children found their own ways to communicate to our costumers and even without their words, it was easy to see and understand the excitement and absolute wonder they held at such a meeting. It is through these kind of experiences that we can finally share something amazing with these children and doing so is always incredibly rewarding.
After reluctantly pulling ourselves away from this final class, we all headed back to wrap up the event with a few celebratory drinks of much needed cold water. A final check showed that every costume survived without a scratch and after some last goodbyes, we each headed back to work (or home, for those of us lucky enough!). All in all, it appeared to be a very successful event as we helped to raise $1132!

WOOO! Top stuff!
"Hey X-Mez!"

"Damn it, it's pronounced Xmez with a Z. Like the X in xylophone, or xerxes, or xenomorph."

"Sure thing X-Mez. Whatever you say."
