Details: Redbank Garrison has supported this event for many years and its a favourite on the calendar for us. It is held each each to honour the life of Jessie Schroder. When Jessie was suffering from cancer, she wanted a party in the park for all the kids. The community and local businesses got behind it and they held a huge party for her in late November 2008. Sadly Jessie passed away in January 2009, aged 6. Each year since then the local community celebrates Jessie's birthday with a big party in the park. With the party cancelled in 2020 the community was keen to get the party going again this year.
The party is held in an open park by the beach, so the facilities are whatever we bring with us. We brought a 3x3 marquee, hub tent for changing, table and chairs, flags and a cam net backdrop. We skipped the Wanted Poster so we didn't have to keep wiping it down. We had a couple of weapon props and helmets on display but these were generally not handed out and kept as sanitised as possible. Again social distancing in this environment is difficult but we did regularly sanitise our gloves and did our best in the circumstances.
We had a good roster for the size of the event. Troopers were everywhere and got involved in all the activities of the party. There won't be too many photos about that don't have a Redback somewhere in the background. The MCs gave the Redback Garrison a big mention in the closing remarks, saying the event wouldn't be the same without us.
I received an email from the organisers today, thanking all the volunteers for their support. Jessie’s mum and family were in attendance yesterday and while it’s always an emotional day for them, to see the community come out in force and help remember Jessie for the sunshine in their lives that she was really warms their heart.
Thanks to the local troopers for your hospitality, and everyone else for making the trip. Especially Scoot driving 5 hours to get there!
