This is the 4th year of this little con, getting bigger every year, showcasing vendors, displays, cosplay competition and artists for the local community who may not get to see such events.
Trooper Attendance:
Mykill – TI
Rebelrach - ID
Rebel Legion:
Thrawn - Jedi
Details:
A very enthusiastic group of organisers that invited us out to Romacon were just delighted that we accepted and brought out displays and costumes and backdrop to show the local community what we are all about. We arrived on Friday, Rebelrach unpacked the boxes and displays into the hall for a good start on Saturday.
By 8am on Saturday the hall and library was buzzing with stall holders and volunteers setting up. We had a huge area to set up the tables and displays and Mykill and Shaun expertly set up the Endor backdrop. The library for some reason had some fake grass they lent us to finish the display!! Between 10am and 2pm locals of all walks of life wandered in for a look around, to buy from the vendors and stalls, check out the displays, sample the food stalls and enjoy all things pop culture.
There was an enthusiastic costume competition and one of the PCYC officers made THE best cupcakes to share around. Kids big and small had photos with us against the backdrop and we met and chatted with local council staff, the library and Headspace staff, local police and current and potential sponsors of future events about what we are all about and what we do. We definitely were appreciated, and it was well worth the trip out and back. Roma was fun, lots of other things to do and see!
A huge thanks to Mykill and Shaun for going above and beyond doing a bit of everything – bump in, bump out, trooping, wrangling, chatting as well as mingling with the crowds. A big day by the time we were all packed away so time for a drink at the pub and then some sight seeing before the sun went down, out for dinner, an early night and setting sail for the big smoke on Sunday.
Charity Funds Raised: Nil
Injuries / Malfunctions: Nil
Public Incidents: NIL.
Mission Status: Success. Worthwhile and good fun, the crowds genuinely loved having us attend. Lots of people thanking us and complimenting our costumes. We have already been invited to attend next year, hopefully with even more troopers. Thank you to those that came along – we made a big difference to a little country community event! Roll on Romacon 25!
