Details:
Where to even begin ahah!
We bumped in Thursday afternoon - poor Sticky was stuck waiting forever on the load dock due to something (either a forklift or truck, we kept getting different answers) breaking down
We eventually got everything inside and up; the new system the J2 team have set up makes bump in of the new backdrops so much easier!
Extra exhibitor passes were purchased and Supanova exhibitor team always 'panic' when I buy so many
Having the same space and change room as previous years made it super easy too!
Friday we were expecting a quiet chill day - my goodness was it not! I feel I had this same thought for OZCC and the same thing happened!
A good mix of the regular convention attending people and 1700 school/university people (1000 highschool and 700 university)
We had lots of visitors to the stands and were even to have a little walk with some troopers
A few of us headed for dinner Friday night and saw some CRAZY antics from Tonga football supporters!
Saturday we were prepared for a big day; on site from 8.30 on the dot
Lots of excitement and visits and photos throughout the whole day
The event was due to run until 6pm each night but we found ourselves wrapping up by about 4.30/5pm most days as crowds died off and troopers had to head home
For those that went to dinner, did you know later that night there was a stabbing by the pool thing in Southbank?!
Sunday was definitely a WILD day!
We started off incredibly early - we were due to do a news cross at 7.30, however on the drive up I got a call asking us to be there at 7 for the cross to be at 7.10 instead
Thankfully Squid was able to get that message across where she could and I definitely didn't drive a little faster to make it there. We had a good number of troopers in kit and ready to go for the cross for Channel 9 which was hopefully a success
After being thanked and told we wouldn't be needed for anything more, troopers dekitted and we decided to celebrate a good weekend with a coffee and some breakfast at what is probably a nice cafe in Southbank. As food was slowly coming out, the media team called me and said if we could be back at the centre and in kit in 15 minutes we'd jump in with Adam Savage
I haven't seen people up and out and running so fast before!! Snips and I stayed to collect drinks and food orders to try and bring back and I kept the media team updated and got the cross pushed back 5 minutes to get more troopers ready!
The poor cafe thought they'd done something wrong to see the entire shop up and running as food and drinks were being put out!
We made it back and in kit for the cross somehow, magic? commitment?! It was a very rad moment!!
The media team was incredibly appreciative to and for us and were so lovely to organise Anthony Daniels to pop by and visit/say hi to us later in the morning but unfortunately the trend was very little notice - I received the call to say they were walking over, I ran upstairs to the change room to try get troopers kitting up and then heard everyone downstairs calling out to say he was here; because of this a good chunk of troopers missed out on the photo (and I am VERY sorry!!! it was absolutely not intentional in any way, just no notice of anything!)
The day continued, lots of visitors and photos like usual. Because of the early chaotic start and travels, a lot of troopers headed off home early so we wrapped up a little earlier and begun the sneaky pack down so that we could be out not long after bump in started
A big thank you to the bump out crew for the help in getting it down and into Sticky's car so quick - we mostly managed to avoid the big storm scariness!
Charity Funds Raised:
2023 between us and Tardis across all three days in cash for BestLife
I haven't heard anything re qr codes unfortunately
Injuries / Malfunctions:
Friday as I tried to make it into the THIRD elevator I had waited to have room in, another exhibitor pushed them out of the way to get in instead; resulting in a busted kit box and a solid cut on the hand - unfortunate behavior so early into the event but nothing a bandaid and some nice words from Bolt couldn't fix!
I believe a jetpack for Boba was damaged during the weekend - I'm sure there were a few other minor dings and cracks and wear and tear of kits too! I didn't personally hear too much for anything major ...
Public Incidents:
Perhaps running through Southbank early Sunday morning could fall into this but well worth it to make the tv segment with Adam Savage
Hmmm maybe Snips being told to shhhh by Anthony Daniels?!
Mission Status:
A great success! We're in talks for GoldNova already!
Photos:
Thank you to everyone for all your flexibility and help and everything over the weekend; it was a big one!
These events only happen and are only successful because of all of our combined efforts!
