Date: Saturday 5th July 2024
Venue: Dayboro Showgrounds
Time: 10:00am-3:00pm
Mission: To bring the Redback awesome!
Trooper Attendance:
Redback Garrison:
Bikuchan SL
BobaCanuck BH
Dark Dora TI:RP
MyKill TI
Teiwaz TB
Details: This was the Redback's fourth and I think best appearance at Dayboro Show. The big difference was Bikuchan's first troop in a Vader. And as anyone who has trooped with a Vader knows, everyone becomes a support character in the eyes of the public when the boss is around. But it was good to see Vader and Boba Fett in the same space. Having these two together is no small thing for a country show.
We did three stints in costume, essentially long patrols around the outside of the arena. The show had a good sized sideshow alley, the arts craft and produce on show, and various vendors. Including my favourite, the machinery vendors, who are always accommodating having Star Wars characters all over their vehicles and equipment.
The perfect weather brought a big crowd this year, and everyone wanted a photo with Vader. Dark Dora and I took turns wrangling. For the last stint Dark Dora wore her Reserve Tie, and it was very beneficial having a face character have a second set of eyes to wrangle Vader. I have enough visibility to do that in the scout, but that would have been impossible for a Jawa in the sun. So kudos to Dark Dora sacrificing time in her signature costume, and we did get quite a few queries asking where the Jawa was this year.
The show committee were again good to deal with and grateful for our attendance. Again we were invited to troop both days of the show but we focused our numbers on trooping Saturday. Change room was an equipment shed, easy to find and fine for our needs. The show committee will be making a donation on our behalf and I'll update this post when it comes through.
Kudos to Kelz for turning up to say hi despite a broken ankle.
Thanks troopers for making the drive out there, it was a great day.
Charity Funds Raised: $501 for Are You Bogged Mate, a rural charity supporting mental health and suicide prevention.
Injuries / Malfunctions: Nil.
Public Incidents: Nil.
Mission Status: Complete success.
