I think all the good advice has been given already so basically I would suggest get to an armor party ( so you can meet some of the garrison and see what goes into putting the armor together).
Ask lots of questions ( like asking before you buy armor, just remember there is no such thing as a silly question, and its always better to ask too many questions than not enough ).
Also if you haven't done so already join the Stormtrooper detachment on the main boards http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/ ( this site will give you a lot of further information and tips to work with ).
Finally Rubies is what is know as a Halloween costume so great to go out to parties in but it falls well short of being"screen accurate" which is the standard we insist on to be approved in.
