19th Jan - Wonder Factory Visit for Little Peter
#1
Date: 19th Jan, 2012

Venue: Wonder Factory, Royal Childrens Hospital

Time: 11am - 1pm

Mission:
After receiving notification from a family friend, the 501st Legion were mobilised to brighten the day of our newest recruit, Peter.

We were told that the force was strong in one so young - and indeed it was!

Trooper Attendance:
Kev Vader, Moxxxie, Phoenix, DarkVoyd, Cavalier, Phantom, Stormraven

Guest Trooper Attendance:
Representing the Rebels - Sith Princess

Support Crew:
Anakinra should have had her Imperial Officer's jacket, but Moxxxie forgot it. Rolleyes (Sorry Shannon!) You still looked fab in the Imperial "Summer Uniform"

Detail:
Troopers began arriving at 1100hrs, finding their way through the labranthine corridors towards a garish room covered in cartoon characters. By the time Moxxxie rocked up, everybody was halfway through changing - ready for our curtain call of 11.30. With a mad scramble, the troopers assembled themselves for inspection on time.

Once the Wonder Factory nurses had approved of our weapons and attire the troopers were escorted to the rendezvous point, where we met Peter - the cadet that we had heard all about. We presented him with a recruitment pack, along with a swag of trading pieces to make him the envy of the other cadets.

We then preceded to tour through the nearby children's wards - visiting many young cadets. Everything's better when there's Stormtroopers around! Anakinra and Stormraven were kept on their toes, making sure that all potential cadets were armed with temporary tattoos and Cadet Training Booklets.

A lot of people commented on the "Dirty Stormtrooper", at which Cavalier took great delight in informing everybody that he was the only one who did any work. Cheeky thing.

Many photos were taken - some reluctantly - with mum's and dad's getting in the swing of things. Sadly, not one cadet accepted Vader's challenge to come to the dark side. Next time, we'll have to bring those cookies...

We also found some droids along the way, but they weren't the ones we were looking for.

We went through three wards today - we visited a lot of kids who are facing some pretty heavy realities. For a moment, just briefly, we got them to forget about their day and live in the wonderful world of make-believe. A world located in a Galaxy far, far away.

Be proud of yourselves troopers. This is what the 501st Legion is all about.

Injuries:
Cav was sporting a rather large armour bite on the back of his knee. Time to get the dremel out, sir!

Malfunctions:
Nil

Public Incidents:
Public Incidents seem to follow us wherever we go! We got quite a few nurses in on photos - so we cant have been that scary!

Mission Status:
Jo from the Wonder Factory has invited us back and would like to set up a regular visit.

Photos:
The Wonder Factory nurses took a number of photos for us, and will be sending them through.

Great report Moxxxie, and many thanks for all who managed to put their real lives on hold, at such short notice, to do some good work.

A fantastic day, and a great turnout (for such short notice...).

Makes me proud to be a Redback Smile

It was only the lack of cookies i believe that kept conversions down...

The small piece of padding that prevents my bite spot, turned up in my helmet bag about an hour after the event Smile No dremeling til after MEPD Police Officer deployment...

I was really impressed that the rebel *scum* turned up to support the cause, even if (under nefarious circumstance) they did take our Lord aside for unknown purpose.

SUPRISE YOU'VE been Darth In VADERED!!!

a GREAT DAY!

(P.S Hey Moxxxie looked for ages but couldn't find that mirror.....)

Just as a point of clarification for those of you who were not at the troop:

Absolutely nothing indiscreet occurred whatsoever in the change-area at the troop, and I reject all comments to the contrary as pure speculation.

For those of you who WERE at the troop:

We were merely developing 501st/Rebel Legion relations

This was another one of those great troops were everyone - kids, parents, staff and troopers - agreed we are just an awesome garrison and all went away smiling. Doppeldaumen1

Though I do think we need to convince Peter that wookiees are dangerous and Vader is the best Star Wars character. And Cavs new career as a pole dancer needs a lot more practice. Eyebrows

What do you call a stormtrooper who can hit a target?

Excellent report Mox. Great to see such a big turn out on short notice. We made so many kids day even though some where a bit reluctant. Staff and parents also got on board too and had fun. Well done troopers.
I also managed to catch up some of the nice people up at oncology who looked after Declan when we went there.

Fantastic mission report Moxx!! It was a pretty full on experience for my first 't-shirt troop' - but you guys are all so pro and I'm proud to be a part of such an amazing group of people! Entertaining those kids for even a few moments in their day was an awesome way to spend a couple of hours. Doppeldaumen1 Great job troopers! Doppeldaumen1
